Don asks us:
I'd like to add an insole to my shoe to give me a little extra height, but I'm having trouble finding anything that looks like it would do what I want it to. What can you recommend?
Hi Don. If you're looking for an insole that acts a little bit like a platform inside your shoes to give you a little extra height, there's not really a lot out there. The main issue is that there's only limited space inside your shoes, so adding a thick insole to serve as a platform will result in there not being enough room for your feet inside the shoes. While you could size up, the biggest change in dimensions between sizes will be length, not height, so this wouldn't really solve the issue.
The best option is to look for platform shoes. These will give you a little extra height without needing to sacrifice room inside the shoe, since they are designed for the purpose.
However, if you're only looking for a little bit of height and are set on using your existing shoes, we'd recommend trying a heel lift. These shoe inserts will sit under your heels, inside your shoes, and provide you with a slight lift of anywhere between 1/4" to 1/2" depending on the product. Since they only elevate the heel, you'll appear slightly taller and your existing shoes should still fit normally.
