Children's Insoles

About Children's Insoles

What are children’s insoles?

Children’s insoles are designed to accommodate the shape and size of a child’s foot, often taking into account the fact that the shape of a child’s foot will change as the child grows. The sizes offered vary from brand to brand and from style to style, but many children’s insoles range from a Toddler’s size 5 through a Young Adult/Junior’s size 4.

Should I purchase a full-length or ¾-length children’s insole?

In most cases, we recommend a ¾-length insole for children. This is because a ¾-length insole for children has two major advantages:

First, a ¾-length children’s insole doesn’t need to be trimmed and can simply be added atop the factory insoles already inside your child’s shoes. This makes it easy to add the insoles without worrying about trimming them for a perfect fit, and it makes it easy to move the insoles from one pair of shoes to another.

Second, since ¾-length children’s insoles don’t need to be trimmed, they can also continue to be used as your children grow into the next size shoe. If you were to purchase a full-length children’s insole, when your child grows from a size 12 to size 13 shoe, the insoles you originally purchased wouldn’t fit inside the shoe properly. However, with a ¾-length children’s insole, you could move the insoles from the size 12 to size 13 shoe without issue. All children’s insoles should list which shoe sizes correspond to the insole size; most cover a range of at least two consecutive sizes, and we recommend following the sizing guidelines the brand issues.

What size children’s insole should I purchase?

You should purchase the size insole that most closely corresponds to the shoe size your child currently wears. If your child is wearing a Youth 13 shoe, you should purchase the insole size that most closely matches a Youth 13 size.

When ordering based on my child's shoe size, are the insole sizes accurate?

Yes. The sizing of children's footwear (which shoe size corresponds to what foot length) can vary somewhat from manufacturer to manufacturer, but generally speaking the majority of brands are fairly consistent with matching their length-to-shoe-size conversions to that of other major brands. And most differences will be that of a half a shoe size, which won't affect the insole sizing much.

¾-length insoles are especially a nice consideration here, as they provide much greater flexibility in terms of what shoe sizes they will work in.
