Metatarsal Support Insoles

You're currently browsing our entire selection of metatarsal support insoles. Use the product filters below to narrow your selection, try our Insole Finder for a quick recommendation, or contact us if you have any questions.

Why do you recommend these items?

Our top recommendations include insoles that feature good metatarsal support alongside good midfoot support and heel support for a fully supportive insole.

The PowerStep Pinnacle Plus Met is based on the best-selling PowerStep Pinnacle design and offers semi-rigid arch support, an integrated heel cradle for support and stability, and a built-in metatarsal pad. The entire top of the insole is covered in a moderate amount of cushioning, making this insole an extremely well-rounded choice that will fit in most footwear.

The New Balance Metatarsal Support Insole is our other customer-favorite semi-rigid metatarsal support insole. In addition to the semi-rigid arch support, this insole will offer a similar deep heel cup for support and stability as well as an integrated metatarsal pad. Cushioning across the top in addition to a pressure-absorbing foam body makes for an extremely comfortable insole.

For those seeking firmer arch support, the Birkenstock Birko Sport Insole is often the go-to recommendation. The Birko Sport Insole is a two-part insole consisting of a firm cork heel-and-arch support piece on bottom and a lightweight, foam cushioned piece on top. The cork base will provide rigid arch support, a nice heel cradle, and built-in metatarsal support, while the foam topper provides a bit of cushioning from heel to toe with extra padding at the metatarsal support.

For those less interested in arch support, we'd recommend the Spenco Polysorb Walker Runner Insole. This insole provides fully flexible and unintrusive heel and midfoot support in addition to extra metatarsal cushioning. Made of a combination of foam and Spenco's Spencore material, this insole provides excellent cushioning from heel to toe with the benefit of added metatarsal cushioning.

Of special note here are the 10 Seconds 3030, 3810, and 3210 insoles. Rather than featuring a "traditional" met pad design, these three insoles feature a full cushion that runs all the way from the base of the heel through the metatarsals, giving much more midfoot and metatarsal cushioning and support. While some enjoy the prominent cushioning, others may find it uncomfortable. The 3030 Insoles offer fully flexible arch support, while the 3810 Insoles offer semi-rigid support and the 3210 Insoles offer fully rigid arch support.

If you're looking to add metatarsal support to your existing shoes or insoles, we'd recommend checking out our selection of Metatarsal Pad insert pieces.

We choose our product recommendations based on a combination of our own usage & opinion of the products, product design & product features, conversations we've had with our customers regarding their product usage & experience, and collective customer product feedback & reviews.

About Metatarsal Support Insoles

What do metatarsal support insoles do?

Metatarsal support insoles are designed to provide extra support for the metatarsals and ball-of-foot versus what a standard arch support insole would provide. This is done through the addition of a metatarsal pad, cushion, or other support piece that is built directly into the insole.

This metatarsal support serves two primary purposes:

  1. It helps to elevate the metatarsals of the foot, which will help alleviate pressure and strain on not only the metatarsals, but also the ball-of-foot and even the toes. This is especially important for those who already experience pain or soreness in the forefoot, including foot conditions such as Morton’s neuroma, sesamoiditis, and metatarsalgia.
  2. It helps to provide additional cushioning under the metatarsal bones, which is helpful for those who experience soreness between the midfoot and forefoot, such as those who stand for long periods of time, those who perform manual labor, and those who wear heeled footwear for extended periods of time.

Do all metatarsal support insoles have arch support?

Most do, but not all. There are a limited number of options available for those who want a metatarsal insole without arch support. Simply choose “Insoles Without Support” when filtering products by category on our page.

However, please note that while a flat insole with metatarsal pad may provide slight cushioning, an arch support insole with metatarsal pad will be more effective at providing full forefoot support.
