If your workplace is primarily outside — including landscapers, farmers, surveyors, park rangers, and so many more — your feet have a lot of potential for fatigue and pain. These and similar professions tend to spend a lot of time standing and walking, often across uneven ground, and often in environments which might be cold or hot, depending on the location and the season.
This means that there is a lot of potential for foot fatigue and injury. Simply standing and walking for long periods is enough to tire your feet out without proper cushioning and support, but add to this the fact that your feet endure the same each work day, or the potential for slipping or rolling your feet, or the possibility of working in the hot or cold throughout the day and the situation becomes more serious. Foot fatigue is a common result, but more painful and debilitating conditions such as plantar fasciitis and heel spurs are another frequent happenstance.
But with so many environmental factors to account for, how do you find an insole that will work for you? Our selection of insoles for outdoors work includes insoles that cover as many of the following considerations as possible:
- The insole is cushioned and shock absorbent. This will ensure that your insole will work to actively mitigate strain on your foot whether walking or standing.
- The insole features good heel and arch support. This will ensure that your insole will keep your foot properly supported whether walking or standing, which will alleviate fatigue and distribute pressure more evenly across your foot.
- The insole is durable. Given the long hours that many outdoors professions require, and given the amount of standing and walking that you do, ensuring that you have an insole that will be up to the task each and every day will quickly make a difference.
- The insole provides good foot stability. Especially given that a lot of outdoors work takes place on loose and/or uneven ground, ensuring that you have good stability within your shoes is important.
- Where possible, the insole offers good insulation. This ensures that your foot is able to breathe and stay as cool as possible in the summer while also working to retain body heat in the winter.
We expect that most outdoors work takes place while wearing boots or similarly roomy footwear, and as such our selection of outdoors insoles includes thicker insoles with plenty of cushioning throughout. If your footwear is tighter-fitting, consider a thin insole instead.
