Product Recommendation: Flat Foot Insoles That Won't Cause Discomfort

on May 14, 2026

One of our customers asked us:

I'm a bigger guy who works on my feet most days. I have flat feet, and my feet are killing me by the end of the day. I know that I should have better support in my shoes, and I've tried an arch support insole before. But it actually made the problem worse. I'm guessing that's because it wasn't right for my flat feet. What would you suggest?

Before we get into product recommendations, it's worth first noting that any supportive insole will require an adjustment period when you first start wearing them. Since you're introducing a new support system to your feet, your feet need to physically adapt to the new support, and this process can be somewhat uncomfortable (especially at first). We have a more comprehensive write-up on this process in our Foot Care Articles (which you should read if you have the chance!), but to make a long story short: you need to allow your feet time to adapt to the new support. During this time you may find the new insoles uncomfortable to wear, and it may take days or a few weeks to adapt. We recommend using the insoles for a few hours each day during this adjustment period (generally at home where you can change them out more easily) until you feel comfortable wearing them full-time.

That said, we do have a few recommendations for insoles purpose-built for low arches and flat feet that will help ensure a shorter break-in period compared to many other arch support insoles:

Our recommendations:

  • The PowerStep Pinnacle Low Insoles take the very popular PowerStep Pinnacle insole and adapt it with a lower arch height tailored towards those with low arches & flat feet. These insoles offer well-rounded comfort and support, with moderate cushioning throughout, a semi-rigid arch support, and a no-frills design best for moderate all-day support.
  • The Currex SupportSTP Insoles offer enhanced support and cushioning. Featuring a semi-rigid support and moderate cushioning, the SupportSTP insoles also offer heel and ball-of-foot strike padding, ideal for working on hard surfaces, performing high impact activities, or for those with existing heel and/or ball-of-foot pain. Select the "Low" arch height option if you have low arches/flat feet.
  • The Sof Sole FIT Insoles offer uncompromising support if you're looking to maximize your heel-to-toe support. These insoles feature moderate cushioning combined with a fully-rigid arch and heel support, meaning that you'll receive maximum support (with the tradeoff being reduced flexibility). Again, choose the "Low Arch" option if you have low arches/flat feet.
  • For max cushioning and just a bit of support, the OC9 Cushioned Insoles are your best bet. These insoles feature a fully-flexible arch support and plenty of pressure-relieving foam throughout, making them an ideal choice for light support and maximum cushioning.

Choosing an insole suitable for low arches will help reduce the break-in period length and intensity, but we still recommend wearing your new support for only an hour or two at a time for the first few days until you know how your feet are adjusting to them. Once you feel that your feet have mostly adapted, only then would we recommend wearing your new insoles for a full shift at work or any other extended period of time, especially if you're spending most of that time on your feet.
