Practically all warehouses are designed to maximize space, durability, and efficiency, not for employee comfort. This means hard floors and vast spaces, which are often combined with long walks and/or lots of standing depending on your specific job requirements (pickers and inventory controllers spend long periods of time walking from one location to another, while packers and shippers tend to spend long periods of time standing in one place). Either way, the warehouse environment takes its toll on your feet.

Simply walking and standing on hard flooring for hours at a time can lead to foot fatigue and heel pain, two of the most common foot conditions. But over time, without proper foot support, this can lead to more painful and debilitating foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis and fallen arches. Given the amount of time spent on your feet, ensuring that you have proper comfort and support is extremely important.

So what does an insole for warehouse work look like?

1. The insole should have good arch and heel support. This will help ensure proper support where your foot needs it most while also working to distribute pressure more evenly across the entire foot (rather than being focused on a specific point, which leads to pain).
2. The insole should have a moderate amount of cushioning throughout. This will ensure good comfort throughout the day as well as helping to absorb pressure and impact shock, which will go a long way towards mitigating foot fatigue and soreness.
3. The insole should have good shock absorption properties, such as heel and ball-of-foot strike pads. Since the heel and ball-of-foot are the two parts of the foot that strike the ground the most, these pads will help absorb a lot of impact shock and reduce foot pain points.
4. Lastly: If your warehouse environment isn't climate controlled, your working conditions can become rather chilly in the winter and rather toasty in the summer. Wool or insulated insoles will help trap your body heat in the winter and help keep the warm air out in the summer, improving overall foot comfort.

Our selection of insoles for warehouse work tends to include thicker insoles, which will provide excellent overall cushioning, since most warehouse workers wear roomier footwear such as sneakers or boots. If your footwear is on the tight-fitting side, however, you may want to consider a thinner insole to ensure adequate room in your shoes.
